Start: West Wight Sports Centre.

Exit through car park and turn right, then right again onto main road through the village (School Green Road). Continue to mini-roundabout by Co-op and garage.

Straight across (Afton Road). Pass garden centre car park on left. Turn immediately left on bridleway between garden centre car park and bridge. Track is narrow at first, then bears sharp right onto the old railway track bed. Follow to road. (Causeway).

Cross the Causeway and continue along old railway line. Pass old Yarmouth Station and follow to where the route ends. Here the railway route joins a road. Turn right.

Continue through 'S' bends, past farm and begin to climb. Part-way up the climb, turn right towards Thorley and Wellow. Go through Thorley and continue to Wellow village. Large bus shelter on left before minor junction. Turn right into Wellow Top Road and pass thatched buildings.

The lane climbs slightly, then bears sharp left. Continue a short distance until the lane drops into a dip. Turn right here onto bridleway. There is a ford through a stream almost immediately. The track climbs across fields, through a second ford, past a copse and eventually meets 'Broad Lane'. The bridleway gets very muddy in winter.

On Broad Lane, turn left and immediately right onto driveway. The driveway bears right after a short distance. Continue straight on. You can see the bridleway rising in front of you. Climb to road.

Cross the road, through steel gate and continue the climb. About half-way up the climb, turn right. This bridleway follows the line of the Downs in a Westerly direction roughly along the spring line. It can get muddy or marshy in places. Watch out for woolly cows.

Follow bridleway until you emerge through a gate onto the lower section of the golf course. Keep right, the bridleway is fairly well defined. It's not far until you reach the bottom corner of the golf course where the bridleway divides.

Turn right through brambly remains of a gate and descend across fields. The bridleway emerges onto Southdown Road, an unmade residential road. Turn right and follow a few metres to B road.

At this point, the land to your left has a nursery and a tea shop. Otherwise, turn left, then immediately right onto Causeway. Pass the river estuary, the Church and the pub. Straight on for Freshwater village. Down Hooke Hill to the mini-roundabout by the Co-op. Right to return to the Sports Centre.
